North American Railroad Bridges
North American Railroad Bridges is the latest book from Brian Solomon and essential reading for anyone modeling RR bridges for US based RRs. The photographs in this book are without compare. The text describes the changes in bridge construction in the past two centuries with full references and a bibliography. If you're building or selecting bridges for your railroad, this book is what you need. -- Review by Mark Lewis.

Intermodal Railroading- Brian Solomon has written the history of Intermodal Transportation from the point of view of the railroad industry. His account covers the entire history of intermodal railraoding with a wonderful collection of photographs of equipment and intermoidal rollling stock. A must for every fan of intermodal railroading.

Track Planning for Realistic Operation: Prototype Railroad Concepts for Your Model Railroad – this is John H. Armstrong's classic book on layout design. It has yet to be surpassed.

Realistic Model Railroad Design

Realistic Model Railroad Running

– These two books describe Tony Koester's philosophy and practice for model RR operations. Many modelers consider them bibles. Personally, I find Koester's approaches reasonable, but far from the final words on the subject. His intolerance for any method he doesn't use is well-known.

How to Operate Your Model Railroad – Bruce Chubb's personal account of operations on his model Railroads. Out of print, but available used. Still useful and a good antidote to Koester's tomes.

Building Realistic RR Scenery– A modern approach to constructing scenery. Frary uses HO for his technigues, but they are applicable to all scales and to modules as well as indoor layouts.

Model Railroad Bridges & Trestles – A good book for a basic understanding of bridges & trestles. Excellent for bridge construction for indoor layouts, but not entirely useful outdoors.

Building City Scenery -- a good guide to constructing model cities for model railroads. Geared to modules.
